Synagoge Neudeggergasse

The synagogue was a club Neudeggergasse synagogue of Temple Club Josefstadt in Vienna's 8th district of Josefstadt. The synagogue in Neudeggergasse 12 was based on plans by Max Fleischer built in 1903 in Gothic style in 1938 and completely destroyed during the November pogroms.

History

The club synagogue in Neudeggergasse was financed entirely by private funds, the foundation for the new building came from the bequest of Baron Moritz von Königswarter. The establishment of the synagogue was operated from the Temple Club Josefstadt, the architect Max Fleischer commissioned in 1897 with the planning of the synagogue. Looking for a suitable property, the club struck gold in the Neudeggergasse 12 where the house was built in 1777 " The Golden Sun" demolished. Then the temple club submitted the project to the City Council. Although the construction project received the approval of the Building Authority, the City Council refused, however, because he probably due to the Ring Theatre fire in 1881 responded sensitively on major projects. In 1938 the interior of the synagogue was destroyed and boarded up the entrance into the building. In 1940, the demolition of the building. The plot with 865 m² had been incorporated already in January 1939 for the purposes of the Deed Law in the ownership of the Mautner Markhof Brauerei Schwechat AG. In 1948 the land was reserved by the Restitution Commission at the Regional Court of Vienna and returned to the Jewish Community of Vienna, in 1953 sold the property to the city of Vienna. Building

The exterior of the synagogue was dominated by the Gothic architecture, the butcher apply an end in several of its synagogues.
