Szczypiorno

Szczypiorno is since 1978 a district in the southwestern Polish city of Kalisz district on the arterial road in the direction of Ostrow Wielkopolski DK 25 and continue to Wroclaw and Katowice. The district has its own train station, railway station Kalisz Szczypiorno.

The district is home to a training center for prison employees and a Ukrainian military cemetery.

In World War I there was an internment camp for soldiers of the Polish Legion. 1918 were detained in this camp German prisoners of war. 1919 was considered among others here the former Prussian district administrator and later Sejmabgeordneten Eugen Naumann firmly in the detention / prison camp for six months. From 1920 to 1924 soldiers of the People's Republic of Ukraine were interned.

Since 1917, the German guards brought the Polish prisoners at the hitherto unknown to Poland handball matches. Therefore handball players in the Polish language also called Szczypiorniści.
