Szentbékkálla

Szentbékkálla is a municipality in Hungary Veszprém County (administrative region Weissenbrunn ).

History

The Romans discovered early on that the province of Pannonia was a very popular country. After the migration of peoples settled in the nineties of the ninth century, one of the leaders of the conquering Hungarians, Kál Horka, with his tribe here. Since then, a permanent Hungarian successor is given. In the Middle Ages there were in the village, a monastery of the Benedictine Order.

This also explains the name of the village, formerly Szentbenedekkál was: It is composed of Szentbenedek (Saint Benedict ) and the name of the tribal leader Kál. The in old documents first mentioned in the 13th century village essentially consists of houses from the 18th and 19th centuries. In summer 2012, all the houses were connected to a central sewer system.

Nature

Since 1984, the Potash nature reserve, one of the damage of modern times almost untouched archaic country. Here figs, almonds, chestnuts, lavender and rosemary are located. With the sub-Mediterranean vegetation thrive here stone juniper and heather. Interesting is the coincidence of the Alps and Atlanktikvegetation. Also, wild ducks and geese, black storks, spoonbills, and various species of herons feel at home here. Very close by is the Szentbékkálla " Stony Sea ". Stones and rocks lie as if she had scattered a giant. It is a mystery where the over an eight -meter-thick layer of sand lying, big house partly boulders come.

Economy

The inhabitants operate vineyards, orchards and arable or lead small pensions. Especially the wine is attributed a great importance. Thus, almost every house has its own wine cellar and on the coat of arms of the village of a bunch of grapes is shown.
