Tabaristan

The old Iranian Tabaristan region ( present-day province Māzandarān and Golestan ) extends along the southeastern and southern coast of the Caspian Sea and had a stretch of about 500 km × 70 km.

History

In Tabaristan to local dynasties were able to establish in a certain independence from the surrounding states and over again. The best known example is the Ziyariden who ruled between 928-1090.

Antiquity

This area was a long time to media and was joined by a treaty of friendship with Cyrus II the kingdom of the Achaemenids. Then Tabaristans was mostly associated with the western neighboring province of Gilan.

Modern Times

1723-1736 were Gilan and Tabaristan russian, 1921, the Iranian Soviet Republic in Gilan and Tabaristan was established.
