Tabassaranisch one of the lesgischen languages ​​, a sub-group of the Northeast Caucasian ( nachisch - Dagestani ) language family. It is spoken by about 95,000 people in the autonomous republic of Dagestan in Russia.

Font, linguistic situation

For written language until 1932 was the Tabassaranische - initially based on the Latin alphabet. 1938 saw changes to the Cyrillic alphabet. Base was the larger of the two tabassaranischen dialects, the actual Tabassaranisch ( with enrichments of the second dialect, the Chanagischen ). Chanagisch and Tabassaranisch are widely differing dialects. Besides Tabassaranisch many Tabasarans still speak Azerbaijani and Russian.
