Tacinga saxatilis

Tacinga saxatilis is a species of the genus Tacinga in the cactus family ( Cactaceae ).

Description

Tacinga saxatilis growing shrubby creeping up, remains low and is branched numerous. The shoots are divided into gray to blue-green, occasionally Glauce, circular to ovoid segments. The segments are 10 to 16 inches long, 5 to 11 inches wide and up to 1.7 inches thick. The located on the shoots areolae are covered with whitish wool and hair. The glochids are recessed into the segments. There are up to 6 brown, gray or whitish, not very pungent, 5-14 mm long spines present, which often have a black tip. The spines are acicular to bristly, stiff, straight or slightly curved and twisted occasionally.

The golden yellow to dark yellow to bright orange flowers are up to 3 inches long and as just such diameter. Your bloom are laid out. The spherical to depressed globular fruits are slightly beaked. They are brownish -green to wine red or brownish red, to 3.8 inches long and contain few seeds.

Distribution, systematics and hazard

Tacinga saxatilis is widespread in northeastern Brazil in the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais. The first description as Platyopuntia saxatilis in 1979 by Friedrich Ritter. Nigel Paul Taylor and Wolfgang Hermann Stuppy they made in 2002 in the genus Tacinga. We distinguish the following sub- types:

  • Tacinga saxatilis subsp. saxatilis
  • Tacinga saxatilis subsp. estevesii

Tacinga saxatilis is on the Red List of Threatened Species IUCN as "Least Concern ( LC) ," ie, not compromised classified. The subspecies Tacinga saxatilis subsp. estevesii other hand, is described as " Vulnerable (VU) ," ie, as endangered, classified.
