Talas river at Taras

The 661 km long river Talas (Russian Талас, Kazakh борьба ) is a river in the north of Kyrgyzstan and in southeastern Kazakhstan (Central Asia ).

It is produced in the territory of Talas in the Kyrgyz Mountains at the confluence of the rivers Karakol and Uschkaschi. In the further course of the river many small rivers and streams flow to it. It flows through the high mountains for the time being to the west and flows through the city of Talas. Then he leaves the mountains to the northwest, transgresses the border with Kazakhstan where it reaches the city of Taras, formerly called Djambul. The water of the river is used extensively for irrigation in agriculture, so that the Talas depending on the amount of water led only about 100 to 200 km below Taras in the desert Mujunkum dry.

The catchment area of ​​52,700 km ² comprises about Talas. The Talas Valley is a traditional settlement area of ​​the Kirgisistandeutschen.
