Talas Province

The area Talas ( областы kirgis. Талас; Russian Таласская область ) is one of 7 regions in Kyrgyzstan and has a population of about 219,000 people. It is located in the north-west and is bordered to the north by Kazakhstan. Capital is Talas.

Geography

The area Talas is located in the north of Kyrgyzstan in Central Asia. It covers an area of ​​11,400 km2, making it about as large as the Austrian state of Upper Austria. The same Talas River flows through the center of the area.

Population

Talas had in 2009 a population of 219,000 with a population density of 19 people per km2 and was thus in sixth place in Kyrgyzstan. Most people ( 83.7 %) live in rural areas. The largest city in the area is the capital city of Talas.
