Talcott Mountain Science Center

Talcott Mountain Science Center for Student Involvement ( " TSMC ") is a science center, which includes a private school. The campus is located in Avon (Connecticut), USA. The focus of the school is characterized mathematics and science. Unlike the center itself, the school is with " TMA " Talcott Mountain Academy, abbreviated.

History

In 1967, TSMC was founded as part of a program of the Ministry of Education of the United States by members of the " Avon Public School Districts " ( co-founders were, among others, Superintendent Francis Driscoll, high school teacher ( high school) Donald P. The campus today

Today, three main buildings are located on campus. The first (student technology building) includes a multimedia library, the Captain Alan L. In addition to the three main buildings there is an amateur radio station (call sign W1TMS ), a meteorological weather observation point, an observation deck / Sundial (20 foot), a playground, a picnic area, a soccer field for physical training. But the highlight of the campus, the observatory is with many different telescopes that can be controlled and adjusted by a separate building by computer. This is a telescope of the type Meade 16 inch and a Tinsley 12 ½ inches. In addition to the 18-inch Dobsonian, there are also numerous smaller telescopes that are available for lessons in astronomy are available.
