Talib El-Shibib

Talib Shabib (* 1934 in the vicinity of Babylon, † 1997) was an Iraqi politician. He studied Mechanical Engineering in Great Britain.

He was in 1959 elected chairman of the Baath party instead Fuad al- Rikabis 1963 was involved in the overthrow of President Abd al - Karim Qasim. Then he was foreign minister under the new government Ahmad Hasan al - Bakr.

After the fall of the Baath government in the military coup of 18 November 1963 he had to leave the country. After another coup in 1968 and re- takeover by al - Bakr's Baathists Shabib were offered various ambassadorial posts. In 1976 he resigned as ambassador in Germany and fled again into exile because of controversy over Saddam Hussein's policy. He spent the rest of his life in exile, from where he led campaigns against Saddam Hussein and for a democratic Iraq.
