Talinum tenuissimum

Talinum is a plant genus of the family of Talinaceae within the order of clove -like ( Caryophyllales ).

Description

There are perennial herbaceous plants or shrubs with a low tuberous rhizome ( caudex ). Some plants lose their dormancy in the aerial shoots. The stalked or directly at the engine fitting leaves are arranged opposite one another and often removed irregularly from one another. They are very variable in shape and sometimes highly succulent. The inconspicuous and small stipules fall off early.

The flowers appear at the engine end as panicle or as a single axillary flowers. The 0.3 to 1.5 cm wide flowers open mostly only once for a short time or are cleistogamous. The perianth consists of two sepals, which fall soon and up to 7 petals. The flower contains 10 to 30 stamens. The Upper constant ovary is single chamber and consists of three carpels. The style is up to 3 mm long or absent. The spherical to oblong fruits contain black, round seeds.

Dissemination

The species of the genus are widely used in America and in Africa and two species ( Talinum Talinum paniculatum and triangular ), represented as overgrown weeds worldwide.

System

The first description of the genus Talinum was made in 1763 by Michel Adanson. Synonyms for Talinum are: Helianthemoides Medik, Phemeranthus Raf, Raf Eutmon, Chromanthus Phil, Litanum Nieuwland and Ketumbulia Ehrenberg. .. .

The origin of the naming of the genus is unclear, probably it was named after the popular name of a species in Senegal or telinum after the Latin word, which made ​​for a valuable, from the fenugreek, cream stands.
