Talitha MacKenzie

Talitha MacKenzie (* in Long Iceland, New York) is an American world music singer, which is linked to Celtic, Scottish Gaelic and Eastern European folk.

Life

Talitha MacKenzie grew up in a multicultural environment, thus giving it an advantage for future music career. You learned in high school Spanish, Russian and French, and later studied Russian at Connecticut College. After her time at college, she moved to Manhattan and devoted himself to " unusual rhythms and exotic modes " of folk dances from around the world at the World Tone Music Store. According to their theoretical musical studies she completed a degree at the New England Conservatory of Music in ethnomusicology and music history.

First recordings of traditional music

In 1986, she released her first album under the pseudonym shantyman Talitha Nelson, were on the look for posts by Anne Goodwin and Tony Morris. In 1987 she moved to Edinburgh and became a member of the folk ensembles Drumalban. From 1989 to 1991 she was a member of Mouth Music project.

Solo career

In 1993, MacKenzie released her second solo album Sòlas, which was produced by Riverboaf Records. In 1996 the third album Spiorad.
