Course of the Río Tambo

The Río Tambo is a Peruvian river on the eastern slope of the Andes in South America.

He belongs to the headwaters of the Amazon, whose origin is to be found in the Vilcanota mountain range to the south of Cuzco. He springs from the slopes of Nevado Mismi and first called Río hornillos, then Río Apurimac and Ene River, before its waters from the Rio Tambo.

The Río Tambo forms at the confluence of the Río Río Ene PERENE and in the municipality of Puerto Prado at an altitude of 400 m above sea level.

The river first flows 70 km to the east, on the southern edge of the Gran Pajonal, and then pivots for another 90 km to the north, so that its total length is 160 km.

In the city of Atalaya ( ⊙ -10.729166666667-73.758333333333 ) to 287 m above sea level, the Río Tambo combined with the Urubamba River and in the further course then called Río Ucayali.
