Tanager

Tanager ( Piranga ludoviciana )

The tanagers ( Thraupidae ) are a species-rich and form rich family in the order of perching birds ( Passeriformes ). Previously, they were assigned as a subfamily Thraupinae the Buntings ( Emberizidae ).

Dissemination

Tanagers come exclusively in America and on the islands in the western Indian Ocean and inhabit mainly the trees in the woods. Most species live in the tropical areas in South America and are resident birds. Only four species have moved into areas north of Mexico as a habitat.

Features

The plumage is colorful and strikingly colored, and they have well-developed legs, make life in the trees. Her singing is not developed very impressive and weak. The Drosseltangaren but the singing is well developed.

Nutrition

They feed primarily on insects. Often they follow the guidelines of the army ants and grab the startled insects.

Reproduction

The nests are usually cup-shaped and are built on trees or bushes; some species build nests closed, which have a side entrance. The nest consists of one to five eggs.
