Soil Kielschnegel ( Tandonia budapestensis )

Tandonia is a slug genus from the order of snails. Together with the genera Milax and Micromilax form the species of the genus Tandonia the family of Kielschnegel ( Milacidae ).

Features

The body is relatively thin and stretched to about 10 cm long. The keel extends along the entire length of the foot, from the rear edge of the mantle shield to tail, or is restricted to the posterior part of the foot. The genital opening has no stimulator (as in the closely related genus Milax ) and the atria are not covered by the kidneys.

Lifestyle and deposits

The Tandonia species were originally native only to Europe, North Africa, Asia Minor and the Caucasus. One focus of diversity is the Balkan Peninsula. Some species, such as the ground - Kielschnegel were introduced to North America ( invasive species ). There they are considered pests in agriculture.

System

The species that were now assigned to the genus Tandonia formerly placed in the then more extensive genus Milax. The separation of the genus Tandonia and their autonomy is now widely recognized. Currently be expected to Tandonia depending on the author up to 36 species. However, in some species is still unclear if they are not identical. The Fauna Europaea lists 27 species for Europe to:
