Tanezrouft

With Tanezrouft [ tanɛzruft ] (Arabic تنزروفت ) is a very little populated and level area called the Sahara, which is west of the Ahaggar, stretches along the border of Algeria and Mali. It is cross-border in the Algerian Wilayat Adrar and Kidal Malian and consists of rock, scree, boulders and sand and ergs. It is located 300 to 400 meters above sea level.

Théodore Monod is considered the first scientist who crossed this area for research purposes on foot. The population consists mainly of Tuareg. Tourism, there is little because of the uncertain political situation in the border area between Mali and Algeria and the related robberies. The German Foreign Office points out the dangers when traveling to areas in southern Algeria and northern Mali. The few water-bearing sites are:

The area named after this Tanezrouftpiste ( Reggane Gao ) is to traverse one of two ways, the Algerian Sahara to Mali and Niger also motorized (next to the Hoggarpiste ).
