Tang Dynasty (band)

Tang Dynasty (Chinese唐朝, Pinyin táng Chao to German Tang Dynasty ) is considered the first metal band of the People's Republic of China. Their first album is generally regarded as revolutionary in terms of a combination of traditional Chinese opera and metal music.

History

In 1988, Ding Wu, Zhang Ju, Kaiser Kuo (U.S.) and Andrew Szabo (U.S. ) met at a party and decided to form the group Tang Dynasty. The band played several small gigs at various parties and had to give up their tour plans by China after the Tiananmen massacre in 1989. Kaiser Kuo and Andrew Szabo then returned to the United States.

In the fall of 1989, Ding Wu and Zhang Ju met the musician Liu Yijun (Lao Wu ) and Zhao Nian, which both joined Tang Dynasty.

In February 1990, it was Tang Dynasty allowed at the Festival of Contemporary Music ( Xiandai Yingyuehui ) playing in front of 18,000 people. The Tang Dynasty have placed euphoria surprised band and promoters.

In May 1990, Tang Dynasty played during the opening ceremony for the Asian Games in Beijing Worker's Stadium in front of more than 100,000 people. The Chinese government had a plan in the world to present a modern China, where they play a modern band allowed.

The success of the Tang Dynasty had with this concert, helped her to convince the Taiwanese record company Rolling Stone ( Gun Shi ) and to take the band under contract.

Equipped with a recording studio and a rehearsal room took Tang Dynasty until 11 December 1991 and published in 1992, the songs on their first album " A dream return to Tang Dynasty " ( China's own first heavy metal album). According to statistics from a Taiwanese record company more than 700,000 legal copies of this album were sold and more than 1.3 million illegal and uncounted illegal best-of collections.

Died in 1995 of bassist Zhang Ju in a car accident. A year later, Liu Yijun left the band and was replaced by founding member Kaiser Kuo.
