Tanganyikan presidential election, 1962
Presidential elections were held in Tanganyika in 1962.
These were the first elections after the country released on 9 December 1961 in the Independence and the Republic was proclaimed. Julius Nyerere, the leader of the ruling Tanganyika African National Union and Acting Prime Minister, won the election with a vote share of 99.2 %. By 1995, it should remain the only presidential election that did not take place under conditions of one-party rule unopposed.
