Taqsim

Taksim ( Turkish, from Arabic تقسيم / Taqsim /, division ') improvisation pieces called in oriental music, which are added to the song by singer or an experienced soloists of the orchestra.

A Taksim is run by only one person, usually it is the player of the classical instruments of Turkish palace music, such as the oud, kanun, tanbur, ney and darbuka, or an instrument that is capable of, the fine partials (koma ) to generate the Turkish classical music because, unlike in Western music there is in the Turkish art music 9 steps to the next whole tone, and not just a half step. It can also be performed by the singer. A sung Taksim called gazel, with a poem in the respective "key" ( Makam ) is presented. These singers usually have special training and are called gazelhan.

In the accompanying music of the Malay Zapin Dance Theatre Taksim is the role played by the lute Gambus opening part.
