Taramakau River

The Taramakau River is a river in the northwest of the South Island of New Zealand in Westland District. It rises in the Dampier and Crawford Ranges of the Southern Alps, 80 kilometers east of Hokitika, just below the saddle of the Harper 's Pass. It runs 75 km to the west and flows 15 km south of Greymouth in the Tasman Sea.

The river has several small tributaries, of which the only significant of the Otira River. Its valley forms the western entrance to the Arthur 's Pass.

In the flow entrained in New Zealand brown trout and rainbow trout as well as salmon live.
