Tardoire

The Tardoire in La Rochefoucauld

The Tardoire is a river in France, which runs in the Limousin and Poitou- Charentes. It rises in the municipality of Pageas, in the Regional Natural Park of Périgord -Limousin, drained generally in a northwesterly direction and flows after 113 kilometers, in the municipality of Saint- Ciers -sur- Bonnieure, as a left tributary of the Bonnieure. It crosses their way up the Haute- Vienne and Charente and touches on a few kilometers as well as the border river Dordogne in the Aquitaine region. Below Montbron she leaves the crystalline rock zone and reaches the karst area of La Rochefoucauld. Here caves and underground caves are always available, which reduce the water flow. Below Rivières, the river disappears completely at normal water flow from the surface, only at very high water level it reaches its confluence with the Bonnieure. The water masses of the Tardoire and its tributary Bandiat occur near Angoulême back to the surface and form the river Touvre.
