Tarentaise cattle

The Tarenteser beef ( French: Tarentaise) is a breed of cattle from the Tarentaise Valley in Savoie in France.

For thousands of years the animals were there in isolation from other breeds. Selected by the nature of these animals are capable of living at high altitudes, and to seek in very steep and rough terrain their food.

Today, a cheese is produced with a very special flavor of their milk in the mountain villages of the Tarentaise Valley, resulting from the high alpine vegetation.

All over the world the Tarenteser occupy a special niche in cattle. In the United States they are used mainly for breeding of hybrids, which have to be adapted to rough pasture conditions at higher altitudes. They are also kept for their beauty and their good-natured temperament.
