Tariat

The city Tariat (Mongolian Тариат ) is in the middle of Mongolia in the province ( aimag ) Archangai. It is the seat of the administration of the homonymous district ( Sum). The official name of the city, Khorgo, many Mongolians are not familiar with, as in Mongolia, the name of the county town usually is identical to the name of the Sums, of which there are 331 in Mongolia.

Location and size

The Sum Tariat counted 2009 5086 inhabitants (mostly Khalkha ), of which 644 lived in the city Tariat. The city is located 195 km north-west of Tsetserleg, the capital of the aimag. Not far from the city flows the Chuluut, with a length of 415 km of the fourteenth longest river in Mongolia.

Facilities

As county seat is Tariat home to various authorities and schools. Four petrol stations and shops to meet the everyday needs are available.

Environment

Not far west of Tariat expands the lot of tourists visited national park Khorgo Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur. Interesting is also the up to 50 m deep gorge of the river Chuluut, located about 30 km east of Tariat. Not far away stands a long revered as sacred larch, which will have 100 branches and is known under the name Dsuun Salaa Mod. In spring 2011, she fell destroyed by fire. In addition to the larch a strikingly large ovoo was built, a sacrificial altar piled with stones, on the one laying down stones or other offerings.
