Tarrasch Defense

The Tarrasch Defense is an opening of the chess game, which is divided into several variants.

The Tarrasch Defense is one of the closed-end games and is a sub-variant of the Queen's Gambit.

It is named after the German grandmaster Siegbert Tarrasch, who looked at her as the only proper defense against the Queen's Gambit.

Each of its main variants begins with the following features:

1 d2 -d4 d7 -d5 2 c4 e7 - e6 c2 - 3 Nb1 - c3 c7 - c5

Often a black isolated pawn is created as in the main variation after 4 c4xd5 e6xd5 5 Sg1 -f3 Sb8 - c6 6 g2 - g3 Ng8 - f6 7 Lf1 - g2 Bf8 - e7 8 0-0 0-0.

Black consciously accepts the weakening of its position in Bauer purchase. In return he gets a free character development.

The isolated pawn, Black can avoid the main variation after 9 Lc1 - g5 or after 6 g2 - g3 c5 - c4 by. The Swedish variant 6 g2 - g3 c5 - c4 resumes after 7 Lf1 - g2 Bf8 - b4 8 0-0 Ng8 - e7.

The Fianchetto was introduced by Schlechter and Rubinstein.

A refutation is 5 d4xc5.

After 4 c4xd5 c5xd4 result is a Variant, the Schara - Hennig Gambit. This is named after the Viennese chess player Anton Shara, who thus in 1918 won a game against green field in 19 trains, as well as after the German Heinz Hennig, who introduced this variant 1929 in Duisburg against Benzinger in the tournament practice. However, there are precursor games, namely against Howard Marshall, Sylvan Beach 1904 ( white win), as well as Viakhirev against Tschepurnoff, St. Petersburg, All-Russian Championship 1909 (black victory ).

Tarrasch called the symmetric variant 4.e2 -e3 Ng8 - f6 -f3 5.Sg1 Sb8 - c6 than only correct continuation for White. Well after 6.c4xd5 re- take would lead to the Springer Sf6xd5 for improved Tarrasch defense. 6 d4xc5 came in Rubinstein's immortal game before.

The Tarrasch - defense is especially appreciated by types of players who prefer an active piece play static elements. In world championship fights the Tarrasch defense of Boris Spassky and Garry Kasparov was used.
