Tartufo

Tartufo is an Italian ice cream specialty that is reminiscent of chocolate truffles.

Traditionally, Tartufo ( Bianco ) from a filled with bitter chocolate sauce Vanilla ice ball, which in turn is coated with a layer of chocolate and dusted with cocoa.

There are now Tartufo in numerous variations, including Tartufo Cioccolato of chocolate and mocha ice cream Tartufo Mocha from. In restaurants it is in addition to cocoa also often topped with chocolate sauce, whipped cream, fruit, chocolate sprinkles or eggnog. Widespread is now also a filling with cherry liqueur.

Tartufo is also offered as a chilled dessert without ice. Here, casual chocolate mousse is on sponge cake, the whole thing is also sprinkled with cocoa powder.

The name is based on the Italian word for truffle. The origin of the ice cream flavor is the place Pizzo in Calabria.
