Tarumaa is a village (Estonian küla ) in the rural community Maidla ( Maidla vald ). It is located in Ida -Viru county (East Wierland ) in northeastern Estonia.

Description and History

The village has eight inhabitants ( 2000). It is a typical for the area small forest settlement. It was first mentioned in documents in 1533. Near the village, on the heath Kartuliaugunõmm, archaeologists have uncovered an underground cemetery.

The Great Northern War and the subsequent plague epidemic in the early 18th century, survived only a resident Tarumaas. He had the name Tenno. All residents of the village originated from this time, or are descended from him.
