Tashkent Tower

The TV Tower Tashkent in the Uzbek capital Tashkent is the highest TV Tower in Central Asia and among the world's highest.

History

The first draft of the TV Tower Tashkent was made in the early 1970s. After six years of construction, it was opened on 15 January 1985.

In September 2008, a transmitter for DVB -T was taken in altitude of 220 meters in operation by the German company Kathrein. With this commissioning, the digital terrestrial supply of Uzbekistan began. Plans envisage to supply the entire country with DVB -T and DVB-H in the coming years.

Description

Modern or traditional Uzbek style elements are integrated architecturally in the tower. The visual appearance is reminiscent of a consciously launching rocket. The tower is very delicate because of its height of 375 meters and the oriental metal ornaments. Three distinctive pillars form the basis. At the crossroads of the pillars there are two revolving restaurants with places for 120 people. The "Blue Restaurant " at 105 meters is held in national Uzbek style. It is decorated with paintings which scenes of History of Uzbekistan show, adorned on the walls. The "Red Restaurant " at 110 meters represented the cosmopolitan claim the Soviet Union. Meanwhile, it has been redesigned and more represents the modern Western world.

The TV Tower has moreover beside a viewing platform via a transmitting device and a weather station. Approximately 70,000 visitors per year visit the TV tower. At 115 meters there are the not accessible to the public art spaces.

The antenna design which starts at 223.5 meters, tapering to the tip in five steps from 4 meters to 0.72 meters in diameter. The tower consists of two separate tower baskets. The bottom is five stories high and houses the two revolving restaurants, the observation deck as well as rooms for the service and technology. The upper approximately 220 meters height is two stories and not accessible to the public. It is worth noting from the bottom to the top through the tower selection lattice-shaped structure, which forms the turret shaft. The TV Tower has a total of three lifts.
