Tasikmalaya

Tasikmalaya is a city in southeastern West Java, Indonesia, between Bandung and Purwokerto on the southern of the two major routes through Java. It is also the capital of the eponymous kabupaten (administrative region ).

The city is located in the mountainous region " Preanger " at an altitude of 351 meters.

Natural disasters

On 5 April 1982 the volcano erupted Galunggung and caused major damage. He also forced a temporary evacuation of the area.

Uprisings of 1996

The city of Tasikmalaya was also the scene of a much-publicized uprising in 1996. Four people were killed and several churches and dozens of mostly Chinese companies were destroyed. These revolts marked the beginning of numerous similar unrest throughout Java.
