Taşköprü is a town and a district in the province of Kastamonu. Taşköprü is located in the Black Sea region. The area is dominated by agriculture. Agriculture and animal husbandry are the main sources of income of the population. The town lies in the valley of Gökırmak. The present name means " stone bridge " and goes to the 68 m long back historic bridge over the river from the year 1366.

Archeology

Taşköprü is partly built on the ancient city Pompeiopolis, founded by Pompey in the 1st century BC and named after him. In the summer of 2006 began, starting from the Institute of Classical Archaeology, Ludwig- Maximilians- University of Munich, a project funded by the German Research Foundation interdisciplinary, international research project to explore the ancient Pompeiopolis.
