The Tasman River is an alpine braided river in the Canterbury region of the South Island of New Zealand.

The source of the river is located in the Mount Cook National Park and is the outflow of the Tasman Glacier and the Murchison Glacier. Over a short inflow also drain the Hooker Glacier and the Mueller Glacier in the river.

It flows from the Southern Alps, about 25 km to the south, then to lead to the end of Lake Pukaki. Thus the Tasman River forms part of the catchment area of the hydroelectric project Waitaki hydroelectic Scheme.
