Tatsuya Nakadai

Tatsuya Nakadai (actually Motohisa Nakadai; jap仲 代 达 矢; Nakadai Tatsuya, born December 13, 1932 in Tokyo) is a Japanese actor.

Life

Tatsuya Nakadai had from 1952 to 1955 an acting training at the theater group Haiyu -za, which he was a member until 1979. He made his film debut in a dialogue -less role of a samurai in Akira Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai (1954). In Masaki Kobayashi's trilogy barefoot through hell (1959-1961), he played a pacifist who is sent as a soldier at the front, with such expression, that he was in Japan almost overnight become a celebrated superstar.

He received international recognition for his roles in Kurosawa, who first cast him in negative roles, like the killer in Yojimbo - The Bodyguard (1961 ) and a schemer in Sanjuro (1962). After the open break between the director and his regular leading man Toshirō Mifune Nakadai played the lead roles in Kurosawa's late works Kagemusha (1980) and Ran (1985). Overall, he has played to date in over 120 films and is still active as an actor.

Nakadai was a 1963 Kinema Junpo Award for best actor in the films Sanjuro and Harakiri (1962). Since 1975 he runs a private school for young actor named " Mumei - juku ".

In 1957 he married Tomoe Ryo, this relationship lasted until her death in 1996.
