Tatyana Afanasyeva

Tatiana Ehrenfest Afanassjewa ( born Tatiana Alekseyevna Afanassjewa, Russian Татьяна Алексеевна Афанасьева; born November 19, 1876 in Kiev, † April 14, 1964 in Leiden ) was a Russian- Dutch physicist mathematician.

Tatjana Afanassjewa grew after the death of his father on with her uncle in St. Petersburg. From 1902 she attended the University of Göttingen, where she met the Austrian physicist Paul Ehrenfest ( 1880-1933 ), whom she married on December 21, 1904. 1907 both moved to Saint Petersburg and from there in 1912 after suffering. At the University of Leiden was Paul Ehrenfest, Hendrik Antoon Lorentz 's successor.

Tatiana Ehrenfest worked closely with her husband, among other things, the influential article on statistical mechanics in the Encyclopedia of Mathematical Sciences. She also worked as a math teacher.

From the marriage with Ehrenfest she had two sons and two daughters, of whom Tatyana Pavlovna Ehrenfest (1905-1984, later Tanja van AARDENNE - Ehrenfest ) was also a mathematician.
