Tatyana Ustinova

Tatyana Ivanovna Ustinowa (Russian Татьяна Ивановна Устинова; * 1913 in Alushta, Crimea, Russian Empire; † 6 September 2009 in Vancouver, Canada) was a Soviet geologist and explorer of Geiserow Dolina ( Valley of Geysers ) on Kamchatka.

Life

After completing her studies at the University of Kharkov Ustinowa worked in Ilmen Nature Reserve in the southern Urals. In 1940 she was transferred with her husband Yuri Averin in the Kronozki Biosphere Reserve to Kamchatka. In April 1941, she discovered there, accompanied by the leader Anisifor Pavlovich Krupenin, the Valley of Geysers.

Ustinowa remained until 1946 on Kamchatka to explore the Valley of Geysers. She then worked in Kishinev ( Moldavia ). 1951 her book Geysers in Kamchatka ( Гейзеры Камчатки ) was published in an edition of 20,000 copies.

1989 Ustinowa traveled from the Soviet Union to Canada to live with her ​​older daughter Tatiana and her husband, the composer Nikolai Korndorf. She died in September 2009 at the age of 96 years. In her will be Ustinowa wished that her ashes will be buried in the Valley of Geysers.
