Tawny-bellied Screech Owl
The Watson Screech Owl ( Megascops watsonii ) is a species of the family of the authentics owls. It is found only in South America.
Appearance
With a body size of about 19 to 23 centimeters, the Watson Screech is within their genre a small to medium sized Art It has a relatively dark plumage. The body top is gray-brown with small pale spots and dots. The front chest is brownish with a darker and a pale mottling. The rest of the body underside is rust - to sand- brown with thin dark longitudinal and transverse stripes. The eyes are amber to orange brown.
Possible confusion exist with the Usta Screech Owl, which is slightly larger and a little rotbrauneres plumage has. The Choliba Screech Owl has yellow eyes. The Cinnamon Screech-Owl is pinnate throughout reddish brown.
Distribution and habitat
The Watson Screech inhabited the plains of eastern Colombia to Venezuela, Suriname, Ecuador and northeastern Peru and Brazil, the area north of the Amazon. It is a state bird, which mainly uses rain forests at altitudes of 600 meters.
Way of life
The Watson Screech is exclusively nocturnal, can occasionally their cries ring out before the dusk. The food spectrum consists mainly of insects. Presumably, however, it also eats small vertebrates. The reproductive biology of this species is not yet understood, but probably similar to that of other screech owls.
