History

The historic building was designed by the financier Domenico Costanzi (1810-1898) commissioned and designed by the architect Achille Sfondrini ( 1836-1900 ). The Teatro dell'Opera di Roma was created in a construction period of 18 months and got his first name, Teatro Costanzi after the contractor. The opening took place with a performance of the opera seria Semiramide by Gioachino Rossini on November 27, 1880. In Opera Roma, which has 2,200 spaces, found numerous world premieres, as the opera Cavalleria rusticana (May 17, 1890) by Pietro Mascagni and Giacomo Puccini's Tosca (14 January 1900), instead.
