Teboho MacDonald Mashinini

Teboho Tsietsi Mashinini Macdonald ( born January 27, 1957 in Central Western Jabavu, South Africa, † the summer of 1990 in Conakry, Guinea ) was the idol and spiritual champion of students in Soweto uprising against the imposition of Afrikaans as a general language of instruction at June 16, 1976 in South Africa. Before the uprising, he had already noticed as a good debater.

Life

After the uprising Mashinini was exiled. He lived first in London and later in several African countries. In Liberia, he married Welma Campbell, the Miss Liberia in 1977, of which he was divorced after three years. Finally, he moved to Guinea, where he lived with Sonny Pillay, the former husband of the singer Miriam Makeba. In the summer of 1990, he died under mysterious circumstances.

Mashininis body was taken on August 4, 1990, after South Africa and buried at the Avalon Cemetery in Soweto. In 2011, his South African President posthumously awarded the Order of Luthuli in Bronze.

Known as Mashinini in connection with the uprising in Soweto Hector Pieterson was, who was then shot dead by police.
