TecSAR

TechSAR (also TECSAR or Polaris ) is the name of an Israeli radar reconnaissance satellite, which was launched from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota from an Indian PSLV rocket on 21 January 2008. It weighs 260 kg and carries a payload of a Synthetic Aperture Radar. Reliability considerations and the desire to bring the satellite to a web of high inclination, spoke against the Israeli Shavit carrier and the launch site Palm Achim.

TechSAR extends the Israeli Satellite series:

  • Ofeq ( optical reconnaissance satellites )
  • Amos ( satellite communications )
  • Eros (Optical Dual Use Earth observation satellite with up to 1 m resolution)
