Ted Buckner

Guy Theodore "Ted" Buckner ( born December 14, 1913 in St. Louis, Missouri, † April 12, 1976 in Detroit ) was an American swing alto saxophonist.

Life and work

Ted Buckner was the brother of organist Milt Buckner swing. He grew up in Detroit, where he worked early on in local bands, then at the McKinney 's Cotton Pickers. He was known primarily for his membership in the band of Jimmie Lunceford, to which he belonged from 1937 to 1943. After working for Lunceford Buckner played primarily with bands in Detroit, where he worked until the 1970s. He was head of their own formations, worked in the Motown studios and was the co-leader of a big band with Jimmy Wilkins, brother of Ernie Wilkins. In 1975, he toured Europe and appeared with a new formation of the New McKinney 's Cotton Pickers.
