Mont Tekao

The Mont Tekao is with a height of 1,224 meters above sea level the highest mountain on the island of Nuku Hiva and after the Mont Oave the second highest elevation in the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia. The mountain is located in the west of the island in the center of the Tōvii Plateau. It is of volcanic origin and belongs to the " Marquesas linear volcanic chain" that has formed from a hot spot on the Pacific plate and moves with a speed of 103-118 mm per year in the direction west-northwest.
