Ukliva - Strömer ( Telestes ukliva )

The Ukliva - Strömer ( Telestes ukliva ) is a species of fish in the carp family. He was described in 1843 by Johann Jakob Heckel as Leuciscus ukliva and placed in the genus Telestes 1998. He was 1988-1997 as extinct.

Features

The Ukliva - Strömer reached a standard length of 100 mm and a maximum length of 250 mm. The head is small and thick. The tip of the snout is rounded or blunt. The nose is bent and protrudes beyond the tip of the upper lip. On the lateral line there are 58 to 66 scales. Above the lateral line of a conspicuous black band can be seen. The dorsal coloration is black green. The flanks are yellowish and the belly is dark brown in color. The fins are tinged with orange at the base. There are ten to eleven Dorsalstrahlen and ten to twelve Analstrahlen. The number of gill rakers of six to eight.

Occurrence

The Ukliva - Strömer is the outflow of the river Cetina in Croatia endemic, a slow-flowing waters in the Croatian karst mountains.

Way of life

Over the life of the Ukliva - Strömers nothing is known.

Status

The Ukliva - Strömer was " extinct " in 2006 classified by the IUCN in the category after it was last detected in 1988. Following a review of species that were previously identified in error as Telestes muticellus, the species could be rediscovered in 1997. A hazard is due to water pollution, habitat destruction and competition with faunenfremden fish species.
