Tello (* unknown, † September 24th 765 ( ?)) Was 759-765 Bishop of Chur.

Life

According to his testament of 765 and of the episcopal catalog of the Liber de feodis of 1388, he was a son of the Rhaetian Präses Victor and his wife Teusenda. In the will his siblings to be named, but of which the names are not known. Maybe Tello was educated in the Disentis monastery.

As Bishop of Chur it can be shown from 759. Like his father, he was simultaneously Präses and thus united the spiritual and temporal power in Churrätien in a person. To 760 he issued the Laws of Lex Romana Curiensis regulating the civil legal relations. Tello is seen as a builder of the Carolingian cathedral in the yard (begun by 750 /60), which took the place of the first Episcopal church from the first half of the 5th century.

759/760 mentioned it to the St. Gall monk Walahfrid in his Vita san Galli. 762 he participated as a suffragan of the Archbishop of Mainz at the Council of Attigny -sur -Aisne and signed the documents. Testament

Tellos Testament is within the scanty written sources for Graubünden from early medieval times one of the most important documents for the Rhaetian church history of the 8th century and one of the oldest written documents of the Grisons at all.

The certificate was as donatio post obitum written ( donation mortis causa ). It was issued on 15 December 765 in Chur, she is signed by Schenker Tello and twelve witnesses. Tello bequeathed extensive properties (goods and lands ) in the lower Surselva between Flims and Trun the 720 resulting Disentis Abbey, with which he was connected. The certificate is the only surviving from the Carolingian period instrument for Disentis.
