Temara

Temara (Arabic تمارة ) is a city on the Atlantic coast of Morocco, it belongs to the metropolitan area of ​​Rabat and Salé, and is located south of the administrative region ( Wilaya ) of the two cities. The distance from the center of the capital Rabat Temara is about 15 kilometers.

In the 2004 census, the city had 225 497 inhabitants. They combine twinned with Saint- Germain -en- Laye (France). The city has beautiful beaches and a small marina.

History

Temara was founded in the 12th century ( 1130-1163 ) by the Almohad Sultan Abd al - Mumin, who built a mosque and a madrasa ( educational institution of theological sciences ). Sultan Moulay Ismail in the 17th century built a wall around the mosque. Later, the sultans Moulay Abd al-Rahman (1822-1859) and Moulay Abd al - Aziz (1894-1908) extended the buildings to a citadel ( Kasbah de guiche Oudaïa ).

Economy

Temara benefited economically from the good road and rail links and its location between the administrative capital of Rabat and Casablanca, the economic center in the south. There are two industrial areas. The South has an area of ​​120 hectares expandable to 300 hectares, with 55 businesses, including textile, packaging, printing and food production. The second industrial zone ( Attasnia ) extends to the north. It has an area of ​​20 acres with 23 companies (textiles, electronics, chemicals ).
