History

Tembisa was founded during the time of apartheid in 1957 to serve as the residence for black South Africans from overpopulated districts and towns like Alexandra, Kempton Park, Edenvale, Midrand and Germiston.

By 2006, the football club Tembisa Classic, who played in the first division of South Africa was established in Tembisa. It was founded in 2005 by Maritzburg United F. C. bought from Pietermaritzburg, whose team was playing in the First Division ( First Division).
