Temistocle Popa

Temistocle Popa (* 27 June 1921 in Galaţi, Romania, † November 26, 2013 in Bucharest ) was a Romanian composer and songwriter.

Life

Temistocle Popa studied flute, harp and saxophone at the National University of Music in Bucharest. He then worked with musicians such as Sergiu Malagamba, Ion Dacian and Gherase Dendrino. He has performed at festivals, composed for the theater and wrote several songs. He was also very close friend among other things with the popular singer Maria Tănase. From the early 1960s he composed for the Romanian film and wrote music for films such as The Castle behind the rainbow, Mihai, the redhead and a guest for dinner.

Popa was married to actress Cornelia Teodosiu. The couple lived in Bucharest. After the Romanian Revolution of 1989 Popa lost almost his entire fortune, which was nationalized in large part. Early 2012 caused the forced relocation of its nationalized villa in a small apartment for furor in Romania.
