Tenala

Tenala ( Swedish), Finnish Tenhola, is a place and a former municipality in the Finnish landscape Uusimaa. Administratively Tenala belongs to the city Raseborg.

Tenala is about twelve kilometers north- west of the center of Ekenäs on the main road 52 Perniö. The main attraction of the village is the church of Tenala, a medieval stone church from the 15th century. The church belongs to the diocese Tenala Porvoo and has about 2,100 members.

Tenala was first mentioned in 1329, but is likely to have existed as a parish since the early 13th century. The community Tenala included besides the namesake Kirchdorf a number of villages in the area. 1977 Tenala was attached a large part of the dissolved municipality Bromarv. Finally, the community Tenala had an area of ​​443.6 km ² and nearly 3,000 inhabitants ( 87% of Finland Sweden). 1993 Tenala was incorporated into the city Ekenäs. Along with this was Tenala 2009 on a part of the newly founded city Raseborg.
