Tenasserim lutung

The Tenasserim Langur ( Trachypithecus Barbei ) is a little known primate from the group of monkeys Slim ( Presbytini ).

The fur of the Tenasserim langurs is somewhat lighter colored on the back in black and gray on the belly. The limbs are similar to dark as the body. The face is gray there is a slight purple cast, white circles around the eyes similar to Brillenlangur. The head has the typical for the Haubenlanguren hair.

These primates live in Southeast Asia in the north of the Malay Peninsula and indeed in the eponymous region Tenasserim (now Tanintharyi ) in Myanmar and in adjacent regions of Thailand. Their habitat is forests.

About the way of life nothing is known. Presumably, they are like the other Haubenlanguren diurnal and arboreal, living together in groups and feed on leaves and other plant parts.

The systematic position of the Tenasserim langurs in the genus of Haubenlanguren is unclear. Wilson & Reeder (2005) place it in the cristatus group and thus as close relatives of the Silver Haubenlanguren. Geissmann et al. (2004), however, see him as a close relative of the Brillenlangurs and thus in the obscurus group.
