The Tennyson Inlet is the southern arm of Pelorus Sound in the Marlborough Sounds, New Zealand.

The Tennyson Inlet includes the approximately 10 km long area between Duncan Bay and Tawhitinui. Tarakaipa Tawhitinui and Iceland are the two largest islands in the estuary. There are three main settlements, which are mainly used for recreational purposes. These are from south to north: Duncan Bay, Penzance Bay, Elaine Bay. In addition there are the bays Te Mako Bay, Ngawhakawhiti Bay, Tuna Bay, Godsiff Bay, Deep Bay and Tawa Bay.

About the State Highway 6 Penzance and Duncan Bay are accessible, Elaine Bay on the Croisilles - French - pass road. The road access to Elaine Bay was created in 1957. Duncan and Penzance Bay could be reached as early as 1960 to the present-day route through the Opouri Valley. This road was built because of the timber wealth of the area.

Attractions

Tennyson Inlet is a popular spot for fishing and boating, as the nearest boat ramp is here to Nelson and Blenheim. Duncan Bay is particularly therefore known, as it is the Nelson nearest point where you can put a boat in the Marlborough Sounds. There are hiking trails around part of the inlets that connect the bays themselves. The natural and largely unchanged forest of the area is also a well-known attraction. There are many " stream ", or cabins, but only a few permanent residents.
