Teresa d'Entença

Teresa d' Entença († October 28, 1327 in Zaragoza ) was a Countess of Urgell and Aragonese Queen Mother. She was the elder daughter of the Baron d' Gombau Entença († 1304/ 08 ) and the Constança d' Antillón; her younger sister was Urraca.

From her father, Teresa had inherited the barony of Alcolea and various fortresses in the Kingdom of Valencia. In 1314 she became the mother of her great uncle, determined Count of Urgell Ermengol X., whose testamentary heir, under the condition that she would married to the heir to the throne of Aragon Don Alfonso († 1336 ). The county of Urgell had actually found since 1276 in the possession of the Crown of Aragon, after King Peter III. they had forcibly annexed. This state was the last Count intend to legitimize legal by the marriage of his heir with the future king to end the generational old dispute over Urgell.

The wedding was celebrated on November 10, 1314 in Lleida, the marriage contract is dated November 11. The children of the marriage were:

  • Alfons (* 1315, † 1317 ).
  • Konstanze (* 1318, † 1346 ); ∞ 1336 by King James III. Mallorca († 1349 ).
  • Peter IV (* 1319, † 1386 ), King of Aragon, King of Valencia, King of Sardinia, Count of Barcelona and King of Majorca.
  • Jacob (* 1321, † 1347 ), Count of Urgell.
  • Friedrich ( * 1325, died young ).
  • Isabella ( born October 23, 1327 † October 1327 ).
  • Sancho ( born October 23, 1327 † October 24, 1327 ).

On October 20, 1327 Teresa had written her will in Zaragoza and died shortly afterwards on 28 October after the birth of twins, just a few days before her father died in November of the year and succeed in the kingdom of her husband as Alfonso IV could. She was buried in the convent of the Franciscans in Zaragoza. With her death the county of Urgell was now de jure united with the Crown Estate and given to the following year at their second son.
