Terje Stigen

Terje Stigen ( born June 28, 1922 in Kjelvik, Magerøya, Finnmark, † August 14 2010 in Oslo) was a Norwegian writer and member of the Norwegian Academy for Language and Literature.

Life

Terje Stigen spent his childhood in Tromsø and studied philology at the University of Oslo. He debuted in 1950 with the novel To døgn (two days) and created an extensive literary work, including 44 novels and short story collections. His novella cycle Vindstille underveis ( no wind on the way, 1956) is influenced by Karen Blixen; the people are ruled by the nordic nature. Among his best works is the 1959 novel published Stjernøj ( Star Island), which describes the fate of many people.

1972 his novel appeared Min Marion ( Marion My ), which was also translated into German. His theme is the right of disabled people to love. The book was made ​​into a film in 1975 by the Norwegian director Nils R. Müller. Müller had in 1963 Stigens novel Elskere ( lovers ) filmed with Ingerid Vardund and Wenche Myhre.

Stigen also wrote numerous plays, among others, the re-sending of the piece røde sommerfugl ( The Red Butterfly, 1968) as well as the collection of texts Norwegian Rhapsody (1972). He has won several awards and was appointed to the Norwegian Academy for Language and Literature. He wrote his books in Bokmål.
