Terry "Buzzy" Johnson

Terry Johnson ( born November 12, 1935 in Baltimore, Maryland; actually Isaiah Johnson ) is a rhythm-and - blues singer who made a name for himself as a member of flamingos.

Johnson grew up in Baltimore in the neighborhood of Sonny Til and Earl Hurley and sang with Jake and Zeke Carey in the church choir. In 1954 he was a founding member of the Whispers, published only two singles. Johnson was a composer, arranger and lead singer of both songs. In 1956, the band broke up again.

End of the year, Johnson replaced then Zeke Carey at the flamingos and was actively involved in hits like Lovers Never Say Goodbye, I Only Have Eyes For You and Love Walked In. In 1962, Johnson fell out with then Jake and Zeke Carey, who had returned to the band. As a result, Johnson left the following year to the flamingos along with Nate Nelson to found the Modern Flamingos.

The band got a record deal with Atco and changed its name to The Starglows. However, this was all to no: The only single from the band, Let's Be Lovers, flopped and the Starglows parted. In 1964, he then got a job as a producer at Motown offered by Smokey Robinson, which he accepted. Along with Robinson, he now worked as a songwriter and produced, among other recordings of the Supremes, the Temptations and the Four Tops. In 1969, Johnson appeared solo debut single My Springtime, followed by Whatcha Gonna Do and next year Stone Soul Booster. All three singles flopped, so he once again was limited on producing.

1974 left to conduct his own band, which he named The Flamingos Johnson Motown. In 2005 Johnson's solo debut album Still appeared in the Pink on his own label TerryTree Records.
